The Saxophone Family is one of the youngest instruments in the band! Invented by the Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax in the early 1840s, the saxophone is an extremely versatile instrument. Used in Concert Band, Jazz Band, and sometimes even orchestral pieces, the saxophone is a very important instrument. As you can see, the Saxophone family spans many different sizes and sounds. From smallest/ highest to largest/ lowest, they are: Soprano Sax, Alto Sax (the one you will play!), Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, and even BASS SAX!
